Cardiac Arrest: In the case of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest victims, lidocaine is not as effective as amiodarone for improving intermediate outcomes, but neither has improved survival to hospital discharge among patients with shock-resistant VF cardiac arrest (Dorian, 2002).

Monitoring: Poisonous effects of lidocaine may appear earlier in the elderly and in patients with heart failure, shock, or hepatic disease. The half-life of lidocaine increases after 24-48 hours as the drug inhibits its own hepatic metabolism. The dose should be reduced after 24 hours or blood levels should be monitored. Lidocaine toxicity may bring about seizures, respiratory arrest, and cardiac toxicity (e.g., sinus arrest, AV block, asystole, and hypotension).

Lidoderm (lidocaine) for pain: This patch has made me feel more “Normal” because I can do simple things I either couldn’t do or I can do things longer.

Xylocaine Jelly (lidocaine) for pain: It’s a good pain medication if you have genital herpes. I know they say to take Panadol but it’s just effective enough. This is much better.

LMX 5 (lidocaine) for Hemorrhoids: This cream works in a few minutes for pain from hemorrhoids. It is easy to use, a smaller than pea-sized dot of it is plenty, and tends to burn slightly for a minute or less, then the pain is gone. The only drawback is its effect doesn’t last more than a couple of hours and it says not to exceed six applications a day.
